Using a professional search engine optimization service can sometimes be expensive. However, if your budget is tight and you have a basic understanding of web page construction it is possible to optimize your own website without hiring an SEO specialist. For those who would like to give it a try, here are ten “Do it yourself” search engine optimization tips:

1. Think about SEO right from the start

Many people plan, design and build their websites without giving any thought as to whether their site is search engine friendly or whether it will be capable of attracting traffic in organic search engine results. At the last minute, after most of the site has been built, they try to optimize their site, not realizing that this work should have done throughout the planning and building process.

It is far better to think about search engine optimization at the very beginning of the process. For example, if it is at all possible, choose a domain name that will allow you to include your most important keyword or search term in your URL. If you are selling bicycles then you would do well have to a domain name like www.xyzbicycles.com . And don’t stop with the domain name; include your keywords in your file names as well. For example, a sub-page of this hypothetical site might be www.xyzbicycles.com/road-bikes.html

2. Design your site with both search engines and users in mind

Your site should be easy for your human readers to understand, but it should also be easy for search engine robots as well. If you want to see what a search engine robot will “see” then view your site in a notepad document or use the html view of the popular web editing programs.

If you have used gif images to render your headlines or other important text, then this text will not be picked up by the search engine robots. In addition, if you have designed a site that is entirely in a flash format, you will not be providing the search engine spiders with much “food,” or searchable text.

Furthermore, if you have long strings of java script and complex style instructions in the head section of your html page it is better to put the java script in an external file and the style instructions in a separate CSS (cascading style sheet) file, in order to give prominence to the actual text of your web page.

3. Write individual title tags for each and every page of your website

From the standpoint of search engine optimization, the single most important sentence on any web page is the title tag. The title tag gives the search engine a good indication as to what your page is all about. Incorporate your main keywords or search phrases into your title tag, and keep them at the very front of the sentence. These keywords are more important than your company name (unless it is Coca Cola!). So our XYZ Bicycle Company might have a title tag that looks like this Bicycles: Racing Bikes, Mountain Bikes, Road Bikes, Bicycle Accessories from XYZ Bicycles.

The title tags of each of the sub-pages of the site should reflect the main content of those pages. Never use the same title tag for all the pages of the site.

4. Write a concise description tag for each of your web pages

Just as the title tag is the most important sentence or phrase on any page, the description tag is the most important paragraph on any page. Summarize the gist of your page in two or three pages, again incorporating the keywords and search phrases for which you think people will use when searching for your site. A description tag for the home page of the XYZ Bicycle Company could look like this: “The EXZ Bicycle Company manufactures mountain bikes, racing bicycles, road bikes and bicycle accessories. Our bicycles are distributed and sold around the world. “

5. Put your keywords into headers and headlines on your page

Your human readers and search engines alike need prominent headlines in order to understand what your page is all about. While a human reader only needs to see the headline in a large bold text, search engines distinguish the headlines, which they regard as important indicators of the page, by noting which phrases are encased in header tags such as , , , etc. H1 is considered most important and your first headline should be labeled with this tag. If the header tags make your copy look too big, then you can change the size of the headers by creating style instructions that will render the headlines into sizes that are consistent with the look and feel of your site.

In part two of this series I will give the remaining five tips for do-it-yourself search engine optimization.

Afraid the recession is here to stay a bit longer? If so, you’re not alone. But it doesn’t take a recession to create problems for your business. Even if things are going great right now, you need business generating strategies when times are tough. Some of MLM distributors fear a recession; reason that if the economy is poor, customers will cut back their budget and stop spending.

This is true to a certain degree. A recession can be a problem for your business, or it can be an opportunity to gain new clients and boost sales. The different is MLM Pro use marketing and sales methods that work best in recession.

The following are some of the strategies that MLM Pro use to maintain and even increase their sales, while most MLM distributors struggle to stay afloat.

1) Wake up your dormant customers/distributors

This means calling up your customers/distributors used to be buying your products or doing the business at one time but for some reasons, they stopped.

The quick and easy way is look for your customers/distributors list and give them a call. Your purpose is to get in touch with them and find out their current situation.

You will be surprised to find out that they may actually be more open to your presentation as their life circumstances may have change as time passed.

You may want to meet up to strengthen your rapport, credibility and trust with them.

Remember to present your case in term of your client’s interest and offer them the appropriate benefits that they are looking for.

You may even want to teach your distributors and help them to do the same. Sometime, you may want to take over the list and work all the ways to wake up a sleeping giant.

This is not the time to be calculative and remember you still benefit even if it is a few levels deep. You will be enjoying the overriding commissions and may “wake up” their upline as well.

What you need to do is just make a call to offer them your help to grow their business. Isn’t that simple? But there is lots of people just don’t do it.

DO NOT START HARD SELLING on your products and business opportunity when you called. You will fall flat on your face.

If you are not comfortable to call them for various reasons, you may want to send a postcard, some interesting articles or testimonials from your customers to them. This will serve the same purpose as calling them up.

I have seen at least one in ten responded to this type of wake up call. You never know that you may actually discover a goldmine.

This strategy alone increases your group sales volumes and put money into your pocket.

2) Contact your old leads

If you are like most of the MLM distributors, you most probably called a lead once or twice. If they didn’t response, you most probably give up and forget about them.

Most of the leads that you give up may turn into a profitable customer or distributor. Studies have shown that most salesperson regardless of industry give up too early in the sales cycle.

We all know that it takes at least 7 “no” to turn a prospect into customer. But most salesperson is gone before that.

The best way to contact your old leads is to call them out and find out their current situation. During the conversion, you can find out what is their immediate needs and if they are looking for a solution.

This works best for leads not older than one year.

This strategy will work for you provided you respect every person whom you meet. It is very important that during your initial sales contact with prospect, you leave a good impression with them. You must be helpful, knowledgeable and caring towards everyone you meet. Nobody will like to talk to you again if you are prude and snobbish. It is crucial that you never shut your back door. You never know when you need them again. Most of the time when you need them again, it could be life saving.

Most of these re contacted leads are willing to meet up with you for a further discussion. At least 25 to 40% will become your customers or distributors if you can fulfill their needs.

Applying these basic strategies will keep your busy and put money in your pocket. I will share with you some other advanced strategies some other times.

How many times have you felt during a race that you are just lacking that extra little or your bike keeps letting you down. Well it happens to us all and very often a simple maintenance regime for getting a Motocross bike race ready is all you need. Follow my easy to follow steps below and get your self into the habit of getting a motocross bike in top condition and ready to race.

Clean your bike top to bottom. Dirt gets everywhere and a stray piece could stop anything working. Sure there will be loads on the track, but why start at a disadvantage. Clean the dirt off your forks, not only will any dirt destroy your seals it will slow the rate at which your forks work. If you can afford them get fork protectors or seal savers. A flying rock can really be expensive if it takes a chunk out of your forks. Ensure your radiator is clear of dirt, airflow through this keeps your bike at the right temperature. Take your cables out, clean them and lubricate them. Don’t go mad on oiling and greasing components that are external. Just enough to lubricate them, but not too much or dust will stick to it like a magnet. Check the water level and state of the water. If it looks grimy, chances are it is starting to block up your system. Change it before it lets you down. Check the oil levels, again change it as needed. You should get into the habit of changing oil and water on a regular basis. Check every nut and bolt on the bike. Start at the front and systematically move through the bike. I have seen many a race lost by a simple nut coming off a motocross bike. I have even seen loose seats and trust me trying to concentrate while a seat is flapping about is not going to keep you in with the top riders.
